One of the most common questions we hear is “How can I save money on my insurance?” or some variation of that question. There is no simple answer to that question, but our office recommends that you meet with us regularly, once a year preferably to review your current needs and see if adjustments need to be made to your insurance.

Major life events may result in increased need for life insurance. Loss of a job may impact what you can afford to pay. Have you put a new roof on your home? Is there a new driver in your house? For business owners, do you need Workers Comp insurance or have you added new staff to your business or reduced your payroll? Is the coverage you purchased a year ago sufficient to cover your needs now? Do you need less coverage than you used to?

There are many reasons to have your insurance reviewed by an independent agent. It also makes good sense to have an independent agent handle all of your insurance needs whenever possible. Visit us at www.wikeinsurance.com and complete one of the forms on line that will help us learn more about your needs. Or give us a call at 727-446-9009. You can also send us an e-mail at info@wikeinsurance.com. We try to make it as easy as possible for you to do business with us.

Common recommendations we have:
Do you have expensive jewelry, artwork, antiques, cameras, guns, stamps, coins, or any other collection? Make sure that these items are properly insured.
Do you own a home? If your roof has been replaced in the past 8-10 years most likely you will qualify for a wind mitigation discount on your homeowner insurance.
Do you have flood insurance? Let’s face it, we live in Florida. We recommend that all property owners, whether or not in a flood zone, obtain flood insurance.
Are you renting? You still have items of value and insurance for renters insurance is readily available and not expensive.
Do you own a condo? All condo owners, effective January 1, 2009, are required by law to carry insurance and name the association as an additional insured on their policy.
Do you drive a car or other vehicle? Do you understand what coverage you have and how that coverage will affect you?

We have many more recommendations. We handle insurance for all sorts of risks. Contact us to find out more information.

Happy New Year! With the advent of a new year it is time for me to get into the new ear of communication and begin blogging about insurance. The face of insurance is changing frequently, perhaps more so in Florida than in other areas in the country. I think that I will also try to keep you informed about insurance items in general and sometimes give my opinion about these things because I feel that it is now more important than ever to keep you, the consumer, informed about the various things happening in the industry and how it will affect you.

One thing that we may see in the not too distant future is a domestic version of Lloyd’s of London. Lloyd’s is a group of individuals who contribute together to provide insurance for unusual or difficult to insure or just very large risks that other insurance companies are declining to insure. At this time the State of New York is seeking to reestablish a group similar in concept to Lloyd’s of London, which will likely be called the New York Insurance Exchange. The idea of this is to provide a centerpiece for the revitalization of the economy of the State of New York. In my opinion this is a good thing if this group can get going. Should this take off it could mean lower rates, generally for commercial insurance, but this I believe would eventually also affect personal insurance as well, a good thing for consumers. And while it is the State of New York that is planning this group, I believe that it will have a good effect on the economy and the insurance industry nationally.
